Purchase of the 9-acre piece of land, construction of a dog kennel building and renovation of modular buildings on site was all accomplished from donations. The shelter incurred no debt in the process.

The Olympic Peninsula Humane Society has maintained an active presence in the community since 1947. The Society shelters and cares for animals of all types.  A private, non-profit corporation, the Society is financed primarily by private donations and gifts. No animals are turned away and annually 2500-3000 animals pass through the doors of the facility. For more information or to volunteer, please call the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society at 360-457-8206.

Nancy

Name: Nancy
Age: About 5 years old
Breed: Domestic short hair – black and white – Tuxedo
Reason for being at shelter: Stray
Description: Nancy practically does a head stand when getting rubs around her head and shoulders. She happily rolls over when petted on her cheeks and purrs away. She lets out a raspy, rugged meow that sounds similar to a croaking frog and she has a mean look in her face but her personality softens when you pet her. Nancy kneads her paws displaying her happiness when being petted. She might hiss back at you now and then if a particular touch was uncomfortable but she comes right back for the rubs and continues to purr on. Her rugged personality sets the tone and puts everyone in their proper place at the outset; she just wants to be respected (and adored really). Nancy will hiss at other cats so she’s probably best as the lone cat of the house. But time may tell otherwise, when given time to adjust in a home setting. She has a small growth on the side of her right cheek but it doesn’t seem to bother her. Nancy is a Tuxedo kitty with a good purr, an appreciation for gentle affection and a gratitude for human contact.

Blaze

BlazeName: Blaze
Age: 2 years old
Breed: Flame Point Siamese
Reason for being at shelter: Owner surrender
Description: For Blaze, it’s all about the play in the game and the reason for that is because Blaze is a lively and energetic cat. He loves having fun in playing with his toys; especially catnip toys. He gets lost in the fun of it all and totally forgets the rest of life around him. Blaze tends to dominate the scene and will do so with other cats. He plays too rough and aggressive with other cats so it’s best for him to be in a home as the only cat. He’s lived with adults and kids and also large dogs. So maybe that’s why he’s uninhibited about playing rough. Blaze is friendly toward all people and is a very curious boy but can be independent when needed. He’s only lived indoors. Sadly, his owner recently passed away so it’s time for Blaze to find a new home. We’re confident it won’t take long with his animated personality.
